The basic advantage of PTFE dental floss over standard nylon dental floss is that it overcomes the patient’s biggest objection to flossing, namely the pain associated with flossing. PTFE tape slides much more easily into the patient’s interproximal space and will not shred as readily once in use against sharp teeth or tight contacts. Finally, the PTFE tape has a much greater breaking strength than standard nylon dental tape.
